What is a Makerspace?
A makerspace is a collaborative workshop—often found in libraries, nonprofits, or commercial facilities—equipped with tools that range from high-tech (such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and electronics labs) to low-tech materials (like cardboard, sewing supplies, and art tools). These spaces invite hobbyists, artists, entrepreneurs, students, and curious minds to come together to build, learn, share skills, and experiment. Makerspaces emphasize learning through hands-on experience, peer collaboration, and access to resources that may otherwise be out of reach for individuals.
Beyond creativity and skill-building, makerspaces play a vital role in fostering social connection, reducing isolation, and supporting mental well-being. Participating in collaborative making can boost confidence, spark motivation, and build resilience. Networks Ministries believes that creating opportunities for connection and new experiences is essential for good mental health—making a makerspace not only a hub of innovation but also a welcoming, supportive community where people can thrive.
